Retaliation

Retaliation as a result of allegations of discrimination, harassment, or other civil rights violations in the workplace is prohibited under federal and state law. The law also protects an employee who participates in an investigation or files a lawsuit against an employer for discrimination, harassment, or other workplace violations.

Adverse action following an allegation of discrimination, involvement in an investigation, or filing of a claim can include:

  • Discipline
  • Negative evaluations
  • Issuance of warnings
  • Salary reduction
  • Demotion
  • Termination
  • Change in assignment or work duties

Retaliation may also include the creation of a hostile work environment or harassment by employers, including managers, supervisors, human resources representatives, or coworkers.
